What to wear for your Maternity Photo Shoot

You’re probably finding it hard to wear what you like at this stage of your pregnancy, but don’t let that put you off finding something gorgeous for your session. We’ve got some tips and suggestions – and links to check out at the end.

Wear something that makes you feel good – and to that point, go for your own style. If you’re usually a jeans girl, just add a gorgeous top. If you’re more of a floaty, midi dress person, find something in a great colour.

  • Think about where you’re doing your shoot and dress accordingly. A flowy dress looks gorgeous in the breeze on the beach, but jeans can work in the right environment (see above)

  • Unless white is your go-to, try a different colour with your clothes. Stark white can drain your skintone if you’re pale and turn out to be more transparent than you’d like.

  • If you’re shooting on the beach, be prepared to get your feet, and possibly your skirt/dress/pants wet.

  • If you’re doing an underwater shoot, a bikini or a simple solid coloured swimsuit looks great. You could also bring a sarong but simple and minimal works best.

  • If you’re wearing a dress, satin or something with a sheen looks lovely and picks up the light and movement in the fabric.

  • Plan for shoes in case they are seen in your shots

  • Consider your hair, makeup and nails – nothing needs to be fancy, just done so you feel happy and pulled together. Your hands are likely to be in the shots holding your beautiful bump.
