NEWBORN BABY PHOTO SESSION What to do before, during and after your session

Have you booked your session or thinking about it? Here are some tips to make the session smooth and stress-free for everyone. Hint: it’s easier than you think.

 Pre photo session

Decide how soon you’d ideally like to have your photos done after you have your baby. Chat with me (Elena!) to pencil in a date while you’re pregnant (if you’re planning ahead) based on what you’ve got in mind. I know things change after the birth so we can always reschedule.

• Have a couple of outfits in mind for yourself – lighter colours rather than black work best. The same for your partner. Think of how you’ll all look together. No need to match, but coordinating colours give a great finished look.

• Also have a few ideas about what you’d like your baby in – we can do some photos just in a nappy, on a special blanket, your bed sheets, a new or heirloom outfit. Whatever suits you, and put what you need to one side so you’re all sorted and don’t have to think about it.

• Check out the light in your home (if you’re having an at-home session) and where you and your baby will feel comfortable. Anywhere near a window usually works well. Do a little tidy up (think bedside table, window sill, coffee table etc) in spots you might like to use.

 During the session

• The most important thing – don’t worry if your baby sleeps, cries, or needs to be fed during the session, we just go with the flow and make it all work.

• Try not to get stressed, this is a time to bond with your baby and just concentrate on them – let me do the work of capturing the best angle and shots.

 After the session

• You’ll get your set of photos – black and white and colour – shortly after your session. You’ll have the whole set to select from (I do an edit and delete pics with closed eyes etc) in an easy-to-use online gallery format.

• You’ll also get a short slide show of my favourite shots to help you start the decision process.

• You can order quality art prints or beautifully printed and designed photo books directly from your gallery.

• Share and enjoy your photos!
