Mosman | Baby and Family Photography

Birthday shopping for Sasha’s husband had always been a challenge, but she usually nailed it with things around travel. Instead, with nowhere to go, she booked a family photo session with their five-month-old baby, Jasper.

We had our family photo session in Balmoral Sunlight was dancing off the ocean, blue sky in the background, it was gorgeous. We went up to a tiny island across from Bathers’ Pavilion, so we got a great mix of landscapes - ocean, grass, trees. I’d recommend it – it’s easy to move around, you can park, walk just there, in amongst nature, don’t have to lug bub too far. Although we live in the Inner West, Mosman is special to us - my husband Denis used to live there when we were dating so it has a familiar feel.

We wanted to wait until Jasper was past the newborn stage so he was more interactive in the photos to capture more of his personality, and I love the smiles and giggles in the photos.

The early morning rise made us feel relaxed and not too posey, we just went with the flow, and Elena made us feel super comfortable. The experience exceeded my expectations.

Before the shoot, I was nervous about my baby’s unpredictable schedule - will he be napping, what do you do if the baby’s asleep, what if he needs feeding? And the main thing -what if it rains? But we went with the flow. Go in with as few preconceived ideas as possible – it’s all doable.

I found Little Manly Photography on Instagram.  I was looking through Insta photos and profiles to find something more to the aesthetic I like and saw a girlfriend who followed Little Manly Photography, so I reached out to her. My friend loved the outcome, so it was a semi referral, which was great as I wanted to make sure it’s the right person.

I’m a very picky, particular person, and the photos are beyond what I’d imagined I tried not to be too specific but really wanted really natural moments, and Elena captured that and more. Feeding, asleep, awake, happy, starting to fall asleep. All the different things babies do.

My biggest surprise that was really special was capturing breastfeeding. I wasn’t planning on Elena doing it but I’m so glad she did. It’s one of my most favourite things about motherhood and I’m so pleased she’s captured this moment in time.
