How to choose your best family photos, and what to do with them.

You’ll receive about 70-120 photos from your newborn, maternity or family photo session (and that’s our edit from a few hundred pics). How do you edit our edit?! Here’s what to look out for.

  • Firstly, you’ll receive a slideshow which is my edit, so you have my guidance on what I think are shots that capture you or your family, and some of those photos will resonate with you. This is a great starting place to then dig deeper into the shots you like, and choose the ones from that series that really means something to you.

  • Look for the expressions you see every day on your child’s face – something that in the future will make you remember the cute/thoughtful/laughing face. You’ll forget this young little face, so these images will become more valuable and treasured in years to come.

  • Think about how and where you’ll use your photos. Look for something with artistic value to print. A stunning moment, beautiful lighting, a gorgeous moment for you.  If you’re going to frame something to hang, it needs to work in your space. A distance or group shot works well, so does a collage of framed photos, whereas in a baby or child’s room, a detail shot (hands or feet for example) looks gorgeous.

  • I look for and take care of the technical things so you can just look for the shots that really mean something to you.

  • Getting prints – we offer professional printing on gallery grade paper, calibrated for accurate colour and tone. You don’t have to do every print this way, but for quality prints on your wall, it’s definitely worth it. And if you don’t print via your gallery, choose a professional printer, not a mall type shop.

  • Little Manly Photography photos really suit albums and framing. Our coffee table book is printed on child-proof paper so it’s safe for sticky fingers. The frames are glass and timber and professionally mounted and framed, and look stunning, and artistic.

  • Many of my clients like to send photos to family overseas – you can either download your digital favourites onto a USB and send that to keep larger file size and therefore be able to get higher quality prints, email directly to a printer overseas, or just email the files to be printed by your family. Like you, your family might have their own preference of shots that really captures you, for them.

  • The most important thing is to not leave your beautiful photos on your computer! Plan and take action on getting a lovely album printed (have a look here – they are made for you), something framed for your home, and of course they’re easy to share on social media.

If you’d like to print and frame your photos or design an album, just let me know.
