Cosy newborn baby photos at home | Beacon Hill
Capturing your newborn in beautiful photos is something you won’t regret. Promise. Newborn babies change so much in the first days and weeks, and let’s face it, as new parents, you’re tired and it’s hard to take everything in, including the little expressions and tiny, tiny features of your newborn baby.
When should you book your newborn baby photo session?
I recommend booking your session ahead with your due date so I can keep some time free a couple of weeks before and after your due date. Two weeks after the birth works well, however we can do your session within a few weeks or as soon as you’re ready. It’s easy to book here – also have a look at the bump and baby package which, as one of my client’s said, is a no-brainer. You’ll have your maternity pics done, and your newborn session pencilled in, ready to go when you are.
What happens at your session?
Your photo session will be super relaxed. I usually come to your home so it’s cosy and comfortable for you and your baby. We can work out where to be – where the light is best, and do a quick tidy up in that area. Having a favourite plain baby blanket or plain sheets to hand is great to work with.
I’ll bring my best baby whisper skills, but we definitely go with the flow – we’ll take the lead from your baby. If your baby needs to feed or be changed, no problem. If they’re asleep, all good, I can still take photos, and they are some of the most heart-warming anyway.
Any prep needed?
Have a few outfits to hand for your baby – they don’t have to be fancy, and often I just shoot with a baby wearing a nappy. You just need some choice in case of any sick or nappy mishaps.
What to wear for your newborn photo session
Simple, lighter colours and shapes work well, and don’t worry about a major outfit, the shots are usually really close in so you’ll only see bits of your outfit. If you want to have photos breastfeeding, keep that in mind. If you’ll both be in the photos, think about the colours you’re wearing and that they work together.
