Bump and Baby photos with an 8-day old newborn baby
New mum Julie was so pleased she booked in for a newborn shoot when she had her bump maternity photography session, ‘when you book your baby bump session, it’s a no-brainer to book your baby too’, she says.
I was looking for someone who didn’t do cheesy bump photos and came across Little Manly Photography on Instagram. I loved her style - it was very natural and casual.
On the day, it was like doing a shoot with a friend, it was so easy. Elena said she was going to follow the flow of my baby, and didn’t like to do too much with a newborn – sleeping, cuddling, that sort of thing, which was perfect. It was so quick and easy, even though we were exhausted, it was fun. We thought we wouldn’t get enough photos but she was so quick and efficient, and we had such a nice variety. We all had our ‘moment’ too.
It was so reassuring that Elena knew what do with our baby. As very new parents, my partner Victor and I felt really at ease – our baby Raphaël was only eight days old, and Elena knew how and what to do with him. It was super reassuring and we didn’t feel like Elena was just a ‘photographer’.
I would suggest choosing the baby’s clothes beforehand – even before you have the baby, pick a special outfit because after you have the baby, you can’t think straight. We had a few outfits so in the photos there are different styles and changes.
The best part of the day? I think when you have a newborn and are new parents, you’re on a completely different planet, and it’s all about logistics, but for that hour we just enjoyed being together with our baby, it was really fun and something we wouldn’t forget. We escaped the stress of the logistics for a couple of hours.
My favourite shot is one photo of me kissing Raphaël. At the time he barely smiled at all because he was so little, but luck or not, somehow Elena captured his smile – I love that picture so much. Definitely my favourite picture.
Definitely book for a newborn session when you do your baby bump – it’s a no-brainer. You’ll be so busy in the first few days and weeks after the birth, you won’t remember to book it. Elena is really good at reminding you – you’re in the baby bubble on a different planet and I would definitely not have thought about booking a photo session.
I’ll send photos overseas to my family in France, so his grandparents have beautiful photos of him. I have a little book of memories for him and will print some for that too. I’m also planning to print and frame two for his bedroom, so there are many was to use them.
I’ll look back and think what a special time that was, how little, he’s so different already and will never ever be the same – it makes it even more special.
