Personal Branding Photography for Wellness Professionals
Brand: Sarina Coventry, Women’s Health Nutritionist & EFT Tapping practitioner
Assets needed: Photography and video clips across social media and website content, or additional advertising material
Brief: In the last year, I decided to take things seriously and create a strong brand for my business, showcasing who I am and my personality as a practitioner. I believe professional photos will increase brand trust and professionality.
We chatted with practitioner Sarina Coventry…
What’s your business or brand? I am a women’s Health Nutritionist & EFT Tapping (Emotional freedom technique) practitioner who seeks to create a safe space for women to explore their emotions, health & hormones. My goal is to empower women so that they can transform their relationship with their body, reproductive health and maintain a regulated nervous system. I am passionate about teaching women to work with their body, rather than against it so they can holistically restore a state of wellbeing and thrive through 1:1 consults and programs.
How long have you been running your business? For four years, however only in the last year have I committed to growing and expanding it in new and exciting ways. It took me four years to get professional photos haha!
What made you decide to have professional photos taken for your business/brand? I used to always think of my business/profession as a ‘side hobby.’ It isn’t until the last year that I decided to take things seriously and create a strong brand for the business, showcasing who I am and my personality as a practitioner. I feel like professional photos increase brand trust and professionality.
What are your best memories of the day? Lots of laughs and chats with Elena! I also had a vision for an image I wanted with a chair and when we were in the studio, I realised the perfect chair was there and absolutely loved the shot. It all felt very easy, flowy and when I first saw the photos, I had a huge grin.
Did you have any preconceived concerns about having professional photos taken? And how did it turn out? I usually hate photos of myself and if a camera is pointed my way, my whole body generally freezes. I was so nervous about feeling awkward or uncomfortable behind the camera or disliking the photos. However, Elena made me feel SO comfortable that I actually enjoyed the shoot together. She was calm, relaxed and super chatty which made me forget that the camera was on me. I was able to find my groove and have fun with it.
‘I love the photos - Elena captured my brand, aesthetic and personality perfectly’, Sarina.
How did you decide where to shoot and what to wear? We shot in the studio of a new clinic I am working at. This was chosen because the students are familiar with the space and it would hopefully encourage them to connect with the photos and my brand. I also loved the studio space because it was big, bright and open.
I chose what to wear based on my brand colours with styles that were flowy and suited my personality. I brought a few options to see which would suit the studio space the best and was very open to Elena’s feedback.
How do you plan to use your photos? I plan to use them across social media, my website, posters or additional advertising material. They’re all quite versatile and I am so excited to share them!
What advice would you give to another brand considering getting photos done? Be clear on what your personal look is, rather than trying to fit someone else’s - this will help you feel the most comfortable on the day. Create a mood board so you have ideas and an overall ‘vibe’ you’d like to create. Get excited - I know how daunting it can be but once we started, I felt so excited to see the shots. If you’re awkward like me, try your outfits on at home, trial different poses and facial expressions so you’re most comfortable on the day. I try to align things with my menstrual cycle - typically you feel/look your best around ovulation so book it during that week! Have a look at what other brands in your field are doing and how they’re sharing their work - this inspires, excites and can help formulate a vision. Get ready to be silly and have fun!
