A motherhood session with artist Mia Oatley

I recently had the pleasure of creating a beautiful shoot with one of Manly’s most inspirational artists, Mia Oatley. Working with Mia was both a genuinely heartwarming and surreal experience, as she brought so much energy, warmth and creativity to the session. To collaborate and get to feel the natural and empowering energy, happiness and light that other mothers bring to this world, and capture it through my camera, is simply breathtaking (and such an honour!). Each mother is so special and unique in her own way; and it is my hope that during our sessions together, women will learn to embrace their uniqueness, and all the wonderful imperfections - that make them so perfect. Mia herself is a shining example of such unimaginable strength, diversity and beauty; and so we decided to ask her a few fun questions about what drives her earthy passion and lust for life.

Where is your favourite place to spend the day with your little one on the Northern Beaches?

Little Manly and Forty Baskets Beach

How do you describe your style of parenting?

Flexible and spontaneous.

Tell us about your journey as an artist

It's been a fantastic 20-year journey that's led me to travel, paint and exhibit overseas. I'm fortunate to have been able to earn a fulltime income from it for many years now.

What inspires you the most as an artist?

Beautiful places and people.

What other interests do you have?

I love being out on my bike and have recently started swimming again. When I've got time I love watching movies, reading and eating out!

Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

I'll have a 10-year-old then so a lot more time and freedom. I'll be painting and exploring every great opportunity that comes my way!

What's the best advice could you give other mums out there right now who are juggling motherhood, sanity, and a career?

Keep your iron levels up by eating correctly, rest properly and get as much fresh air and exercise as you can to replenish your energy.
